Searching for your signature perfume is a bit like looking for Mr. Right – sometimes it can take a while, and a few mistakes, before you find your perfect match. Just when you think you have found it, something new comes along that make you wonder…Is this really The One? And do you need to stick with it forever?
Often nothing else comes close, and you know that nothing else will do. So how do you know?
Well…There are the compliments, the second glances, the spring in your step and the air of confidence that comes from knowing that you have cracked it. There is also something that is harder to define. You are unable to put your finger on it, but you just know that it is right. When nothing else comes close, it is easy to be smug in the knowledge that there is no other fragrance on the market that is worthy of your loyalty and adoration.
However, sometimes even the most perfect scent deserves a break. Wearing the same perfume all the time means that you stop smelling it at its full capacity. There is often no harm in checking out other contenders because once in a while another great one might just come along.
Imagine my disappointment when my favourite scent was discontinued. By necessity, I am on a permanent quest to find an alternative. And I am having a lot of fun along the way.
When I do occasionally come across my signature brand and I can joyously replenish my stash, it feels like finding a part of me that has been missing. Never sure when I will find it again, I ration my supplies cautiously and often save it for best. Then sometimes when I am feeling reckless I spritz some on – just to remind me to live a little, and that there’s plenty more fish in the sea…
