Learn how to apply makeup: The Sequence of makeup.
1. Cleansing. First off you need to start off with a fresh clean face. Use facial cleanser like, Neutrogena, Clearasil, Aveeno… Find a product that best cleans your skin, without damaging or drying out your skin. So, now you apply your cleansing cream on your forehead, checks, eyes, nose, chin and neck. You should spread it over your face in an upward circular stroke, so that all the facial features are cleansed thoroughly. Wipe off the cleanser with a moist cotton pad dipped in water. And to ensure your face is cleaned properly, repeat a second time.
2. Eye shaping. Once your face is cleansed check your eyebrows arch. Any sign of stray hairs should be removed, to give your face a clean look to your face.
Men’s eyebrows should be slightly thick and heavier in shape and the centre should be absolutely clean while for women the eyebrows should be of medium thickness and the shape must be very well defined. Normally eyebrows are shaped at a 45 degree angle. The eyebrow Shaping can be done in different styles:
Sweeping
This shape generally suits all faces and gives a scope for different types of eye make-up. A sweeping shape in eyebrows helps to create an illusion of large and open eyes, balance a wide mouth and large nose and provide width to a long and triangular face.
Angular
Angular eyebrows portray elegant and stern looks. A chubby, round face can be made more interesting by making angular eyebrows.
Round
Round eyebrows look very good on the faces that have big eyes and a large forehead. The eyebrows are shaped along the frontal bone and follow the shape of the eye. Since it is natural flow of the eyebrow it gives an innocent look to the face.
Close-set eyes
Close-set eyes on an individual’s face can be made to look apart by widening the centre distance of the eyebrows and increasing length at the ends.
Wide-set eyes
Wide-set eyes can be made to appear closer by shaping the eyebrow lines slightly from the inner corner of the eyes. You should study the characteristics of your face and determine the most suitable shape for the eyebrows.
3. Lotion the skin. If after your skin has been cleansed and left too dry or red, apply moisturizer. This will protect your skin and keep it cleaner for longer.
4. Application of foundation. Foundation is selected according to skin’s color and texture. Powder, liquid or a combination of both, you first must find a foundation that matches your facial skin tone. You find this out by sampling the foundation on your neck.
*Tip: Your face gets lighter after the summer, and fades in color. So, in order to match your foundation, you have to have it close to the color of your neck, that way, you don’t the jaw line ring of mix-matched foundation.
After you find your perfect foundation, you need to invest in Primer. Cosmetic companies have primers, for eye lids, under your eyes and your entire face. The purpose of a primer is so your make stays on longer, smoother and will not smudge. This gives less time of reapplying your makeup during the course of the day. However, KEEP IN MIND- you don’t have apply foundation to cover your entire face, only in spots that you feel you need it.
5. Application of blusher and bronzers. Blush and bronzers are to be applied after the primer and foundation. Depending on the natural skin tone, you can apply bronzer and blush, pending the color tones of your face and the makeup. Blush color is applied on the smile of your face, and bronzer is applied on the larger portions of your face. Blush and bronzer should be blend towards the temples in smooth flowing strokes to give your face natural shading.
•Blush should be in harmony with lipstick/gloss color. It would be better if cheek colors are lighter than the color of the lipstick to enhance your facial features.
•Bronzer is applied to your larger facial areas. For example, your forehead, and each ENTIRE side of your face (under your eye, to your jaw line). Bronzer gives you a tint of a tan to brighten up your face.
•Bright and dark cheek colors should be avoided because these give an artificial look to the face.
•Use pale and light cheek colors during day time. For evenings, weave in additional cheek colors to accentuate the features because artificial light drains cosmetic colors.
•Apply cheek color to highlight the angular contour of the face.
6. Application of eye shadow. The color of the eye shadow is to be chosen carefully. To enhance the eye color, the area under the brow should be shadowed in a lighter shade. A deeper shade of eye shadow should be applied on outside part of the eyelids according to the dress color. Eye shadow is to be applied with a brush in order to get the exact shape for your eye. Two shades of the same color eye shadow or a contrast can be used at the same time. Dark color eye shadow should be nearest to the middle and upper area of the eye.
The following points should be kept in mind before choosing an eye shadow:
1.For day time eye shadow should match your eyes or be one shade lighter.
2.Bright and contrast colored eye shadows are better suited to evening wear.
3.For mature women lightening the area under the eyebrows makes the eyes look bigger and brighter. White, off white and ivory shades are best for this purpose.
4.Dark eye shadows look good only on younger women with smooth eyelids.
5.Small, deep set, mature eyes should avoid dark colors on the eye sockets. Use only light eye shadows.
7. Application of eyeliner. Apply only after eye shadow is put on.
•Color of the eyeliner should be same as the color of the mascara.
•The line is tapered off while approaching inner and outer corners of the eye.
•Use short feathery strokes instead of trying to draw one solid line.
•Do not apply thick eyeliner to small or close-set eyes.
•Do not over blend, spilling your eyeliner onto the skin under the lower lashes; that makes dark circles look worse.
8. Mascara application. Consider the types of mascara and select one appropriate for your lashes and the occasion. You have a choice of lengthening, thickening, long-wearing, and waterproof formulas, among others. For day, you might decide to add length, while a night on the town may require a long-wearing or thickening formula. So it is always important to have more than one type of mascara!
•Now select the color of mascara if you have blond or red lashes, opt for brown mascara. If you have darker-lashed can select the brown for a casual look, and black or brown-black for more pronounced or dramatic lashes.
•Ensure that the mascara covers the lashes from the root to the tip of the lash.
•Now begin with the underside of your upper lashes, moving the brush slowly upward toward the tips of your lashes. Always hold the wand parallel to your eyelid and the brush tip will always stay away from the eye socket area.
•Apply mascara 2 or 3 times throughout the makeup session, letting each coat dry before applying the another coat in the same manner.
•Use an eyelash comb to separate the wet lashes.
•Hold the wand vertically when applying mascara to lower lashes; use less mascara for the lower lashes.
•Remove any stray and extra mascara.
10. Application of lipsticks. Applying lipstick gives a finishing touch to a look by defining the mouth and adding color to the face. You can transform your look in any way you like simple by changing your lipstick color. There are five basic formulas to pick from when choosing a lipstick:
SHEER: Sheer, contain minimal coverage .They’re so sheer, you don’t need a mirror to apply them.
SHIMMER: Shimmer, formerly known as frosted, are more beautiful and subtle. They look heavily metallic, pearly, or opalescent in the tube, but on lips, the coverage is soft and subtle.
CREAM: Amatte look without the heavy matte feel, creams contain more oils and conditioners than mattes, which makes them lighter .They’re also known as moisturizing lipstick or hydrating lipstick.
MATTE: Mattes last longest (except for long lasting lipsticks), because they contains most pigment and pigment makes a lipstick last. But mattes can be drying.
LONG-LASTING: The heat of the lip stimulates continuous release of color. Ingredients like porous silica seal it in, and cetyl octanate (common in foundation) makes it last.
